Seeding Growth with Strategic Clarity

THE CONTEXT

Gro Events Group is a premier rural event management, event communications and event marketing agency with a vibrant MD at its helm, Dimity Smith. 

Dimity (or Dim as she is fondly known!) had been seeing opportunities in her work to establish a platform to connect rural professionals with brands who wish to access rural and remote talent in an engaging, simple and fun way. This platform and new business arm would be called Gro Rural. 

Whilst she had already put energy and finance into establishing the platform, she wanted to build some clarity and direction around where to focus her attention and business  resources, what the potential could be and what needed to happen next, including what needed to be tested to prove the business case for further investment (or not).  

 

THE BRIEF

Dimity engaged Claire to spend a day with her planning and unpacking the what, why and how of Gro Rural to achieve:

Clarity on:  

  • The value: who are the core potential customers and what is the value proposition for them? 

  • The direction: what resources and activities are needed to do this?  

  • The business model: how will this create, capture and deliver value,  including scalability potential. 

Focus on: 

  • What needed to be tested to prove the business case - what is the kiss-kill button to pursue, pause or pivot? How will we know? 

90 Day plan: 

  • What needs to be prioritised and achieved in the next 90 days

 

HOW WE APPROACHED THIS WORK

Once goals for the day were set, Claire and Dimity quickly started unpacking all the components needed to build out a great offering for the marketplace; 

  • Value intersection for a multi-sided business model - who are the key stakeholders and what's the intersection of value for all three groups? 

  • Solution - what could it be? What does it need to be right now? 

  • What and where should attention and resources be given? 

We also took some time to consider a stretch test -  Is this big enough? Ambitious enough? Valuable enough? 

OUTCOMES

  • A 90 day plan which focuses attention and resources with the reality of the main business operations. 

  • Confidence to move forward with a great solution in Gro Rural which is clear, value driven and ready to go to the next stage. 

  • Comfort in knowing what needs to be done and tested to prove the business case over the coming 90 days.
